Sketches of Evan,     Viscount Tredegar          'Lord of the Lies'

A new book about Evan Morgan, Viscount Tredegar  is published on 4 December 2017

This new work is  by  British  Society   writer  William Cross,  Evan’s biographer, and the author of seven  other books featuring the notably eccentric Welsh peer.

“ Sketches of Evan, Viscount Tredegar” subtitled ‘Lord of the Lies’ is a compilation of  reminiscences and impressions   of how  the last Viscount Tredegar  is   recalled by  regular habitats of Tredegar House ( the Morgan family seat in South Wales  )  in the 1930s.

Here are real stories,  in the  words of  those who knew Evan,   his friends, foes and  lovers.  Contributors include  historian  Cyril Hughes Hartmann,  novelist Inez Holden, travel writer  Robin Bryans, journalists Cyril Roberts and  Charles Graves plus  revealing tales from the  Irish Catholic diplomat, Desmond Leslie,  his son Shane Leslie ( who was Evan’s godson) ,  The Times  literary editor, Alan Pryce-Jones & the political commentator and barrister, Henry Maxwell.

Cross explains:  : There are many tall stories about Evan Morgan, and so called facts  have been contrived, misinterpreted of just invented in some  cases these are no better than lies.

This is essential reading for those interested in the British aristocracy

This  is a  book of  memories  ( the first in  a series)   left behind  by Evan’s clique. It  offers descriptions, opinions,  & personal reflections.

Jim Dyer, Newport historian provides a nostalgic introduction.  The Preface to the book  contains an article entitled “ The Erosion  of the History of the Morgans Of  Tredegar House, Newport”   by William Cross, FSA Scot
